Tawd Valley Park consultation

This project looked at how the Tawd Valley, described as the ‘jewel in the crown of Skelmersdale’ could be developed to improve its appeal and accessibility to local people.  A wide ranging consultation, organised by Groundwork, with the support of West Lancashire CVS, took place between June and October 2017.  The results have fed directly into a Master Plan to guide future development and look at how the park can be sustainable.

A fresh look at the Tawd Valley Park – the green heart of Skelmersdale

The overall aim of the project is look at how to provide opportunities for people to enjoy the Tawd Valley, often described as the ‘jewel in the crown of Skelmersdale’ to the full, whilst at the same time generating the financial resources needed for the area to be looked after and maintained.

A wide ranging consultation took place during Summer 2017 with local residents and people who have an interest in the park including local primary schools, secondary schools and colleges, to see what direction future improvements should take.  These results have fed directly into a Master Plan to guide future development and look at how the park can be sustainable.

The project is being led and funded by West Lancashire Borough Council  and is supported by a Project Steering group with representatives from Environment Agency,  County Council, the River Douglas Catchment Partnership,  Groundwork CLM, West Lancs CVS and SHARES.

The Borough Council has selected Tawd Valley park as one of four projects it is funding in 2018/19 using Community Infrastructure Levy monies.
